zoukout=zonkout?

if youve read the papers - life! section and the new paper on monday, youll be amused by how the local press was in "praises" for zoukout 2007. even before the event, we often see huge write-ups of it and how exciting it was going to be with its line-up of international deejays. but honestly, the downside of over-promising is the disappointment of its inability to live up to standards, or at least my mates' and mine.

in any case, thanks to eun who had complimentary tickets, i was saved from a hole in the pocket. so let me share my zoukout 2007 trivia:

1. eun had gotten us tickets for priority queue, but we got ushered to the wrong queue where we had to squeeze with a crowd. despite us trying to tell the bouncer many times that we had tickets for priority queue, and even showing him the tickets, he paid no heed and just patronised us with "just a minute".

2. there was a lot of hype about the 5-storey euroslide , if youve checked out the official site. cool, it seems pretty interesting but isnt absurd to pay $5 just for a slide down on this blow up toy? my mates and i were cool-headed enough not to blow our money away.

3. zouk, we know you're trying to keep the people partying till daybreak, hence it might seem really smart to line the famous international acts as the last few acts. but as attractive as carl cox and armin van buuren sounds, you gotta have some interesting acts in between to sustain interest - you need to keep the energy up throughout, so that people wld stay on. as much as i thought bookashade plays nice tunes, but hey, this is a beach party, give us something to keep that energy up! if i want a quiet chillout night, id have stayed home.

4. the party-goers were, sad to say, just checking out. it seemed like no one was in the mood for hardcore partying. surprisingly, noticed everyone was more clothed than the previous time i was there.

5. the press has raved about the parachutist and all. but hey, what parachutist? i was there then, but only got to know it from the papers the next day. was it that spectacular? i wonder.

6. when carl cox first came up, he made the boo-boo of mistaking us as kl and did a desperate save by saying a long string of words before getting to singapore.

so that pretty sums up my zoukout 2007. maybe zoukout 2005 was really exciting for me and i thought the rain was a huge saviour - i was praying for rain this time round! after this year's, i cant help but to cringe whenever i read comments of zoukout being our "ibiza". even though zoukout 2007 was disappointing, i cant quite figure whether this being the last zoukout is good or bad.

good- well, judging from this year's standard, seems like no love lost.

bad? - seems like theres no more chance for zouk to redeem itself and prove its capability of hosting a beach party.

so who else went for zoukout 2007? or even the past zoukouts? share with us what you think!
